Cover: Blackie Bernal's pusher recoils for another shove at the 40 cubic inch Class A American Speed record. After seven days of storming the traps, Blackie's hopes hadn't dimmed and it was only on the eighth and last day that his determination was rewarded in full when an average speed of 144.338 was recorded. All of the five records made this year have now been approved by E.C. Smith, AMA secretary, marking another milestone in speed.
