...when an electric Jeantaud car set up a record of 39.24 m.p.h., a fine contrast with the modern speeds of over 350 m.p.h.

Ignoring his own magnificent achievements, the story of which is told at the end of the book, Captain Eyston extols the feats of his predecessors. Famous names like Parry Thomas, Eldridge, Segrave, and Campbell enrich the story of man's conquest of speed. Captain Eyston has been at pains not only to give intimate glimpses of these renowned drivers, but to give due praise to the designers and to the humble mechanics, who all play their part.

Eyston's own story of his record-breaking run on Thunderbolt, at nearly six miles a minute, brings home to the reader the trials of the record-breaker, and the thrills of the   eventual triumph.

The book is illustrated with photographs which have been collected from all over the world. Some of them are from the private collections of Sir Malcolm Campbell and Captain Etston. Those of the early cars have been exceptionally difficult to obtain, and are of unusual interest.

"Fastest on Earth" is a book to read for its thrilling story, and to keep for its historical value. - Floyd Clymer, 1946
